  • Santa Fe Railyard on Saturday from 7 am till 12pm
  • Los Alamos Monthly Farmers market on Thursday from 7 am till 12 noon beginning May 6.
  • Eldorado Farmers Market beginning May 21st 3pm till 7pm.
  • Albuquerque Downtown, 8th and Central, Robinson Park, 8am till 12noon Saturday beginning in June.
  • Cedar Crest Market starting soon
  • ABQ Uptown Starting soon.

Safety Policy and Tips

Come join the fun, feed the baby goats and tour the farm. It truly is a working farm with goats, cows, donkeys, geese, ducks and chickens. Come make a difference and experience life on the farm.

Please wear warm clothes and be prepared for breezy days. Gloves, jackets and hats are recommended. Only closed shoes are allowed on the farm such as tennis shoes or boots. No sandals please. Please bring an ice chest for your cheese purchases.

Safety Tips and Policy

Please do not bring your pets as we have working dogs that interpret pets as a possible threat to the animals on the farm. They work hard to protect their family members though the dogs are kind and very affectionate towards people.

  • Please wear Enclosed shoes only
  • Wash your hands before petting our animals
  • Please attend your children closely
  • Beware of barbed wire fence
  • Please follow staff and their direction when touring the farm.
  • Most of all please have fun.
  • Bring a cooler for your cheese purchases.
  • Please no Smoking on the Farm.

If you visited another farm, before you visit the Old Windmill Dairy please let us know before entering the property. We will help you sanitize your shoes. This helps reduce bacteria transmission between farms. Animals just like people can become sick. We work very hard to keep our animals healthy. If you are sick or coming down with something please consider rescheduling  your visit when you are in good health.When you arrive you are expected to sanitize your hands before petting any of the animals. Please sanitize your hands when you leave as well. Hand sanitizer is provided on the farm.

Los Poblanos Organics and Rio Grande Lavendar Festival.

Yes we are doing it again folks. We will be on the Los Poblanos Bed Breakfast / Farm on the Rio Grande June 26 and June 27 (Saturday and Sunday) for the wonderful and delightful Lavendar festival. Come sample our cheese. Have a picnic in the park. For 2 weeks only we will be making our Lavendar Honey Chevre that everyone loves so much. Hope to see you their.

School Tours Available

Old Windmill Education is proud to provide a wonderful educational experience on the farm. We have a wonderful class room for open discussions about the farm.

During your visit you can expect to learn about:

  • Nutritional needs of goats
  • Nutritional needs of cows, donkeys, geese and chickens
  • Techniques of milking goats and cows
  • Techniques of making cheese
  • What is involved in taking care of various farm animals
  • Why does the farm have dogs and donkeys?
  • How to feed a baby goat.

  

Safety Concerns:

  • Please bring winter coats, gloves, pants and shoes. Please no open shoes on the farm.
  • Please bring clothes you do not mind getting a little dirty.
  • Everyone will be required to wash their hands before and after petting animals on the farm.
  • Shoes may need to be saniitized if you were on another farm or around other live stock prior to coming to Old Windmill Dairy. Please let the staff know ahead of time.
  • Please bring a sack lunch.
  • Please abstain from putting fingers in Farm Animals mouths as they do bite.

Cheese Making Classes.

Come spend a day at the farm and experience cheese making in a personalized setting.

  

Groups of 20 are accepted.

  

We teach techniques that are often explained in cheese making books but are difficult to understand until you see it in person.

Cheese tasting offered.  

Aged cheeses that are made in your class maybe prepurchased with a customized label. This cheese can make a wonderful gift for friends and family. We will be glad to ship the cheese after it has been properly aged.

  

  

Review of 2009

Cheese making classes are all finished for the year. We had a great turnout. Thanks to everyone who participated.

We are currently present at the Los Alamos Farmers Market and Santa Fe Farmers Market.

We had a great time at the Slow Money Conference in Santa Fe. Please read about us in the Wall Street Journal.

Michael and Ed had a wonderful time touring 7 different farms in Vermont this last November. We learned about their best practices.

Our cheese continues to be featured at all 9 Flying Star Locations. We wish to thank everyone for your support.
